Parent Notes - Week 12

Hi there!
I appreciate those of you who are reading each week! It's good to know that I have one place to share information with all of my students' parents.

Just a few notes for this week:
1. Once the Public Speaking course ends in January, I will be replacing that time slot with a Research Paper class. It's a wonderful opportunity for students to have personalized attention while they learn to write an 8-10 page research paper in the MLA style. This class may be used in one of several ways, depending on the rules of your accountability group:
  • as a portion of the writing skills for English credit.
  • with an appropriate topic, as additional work for honors credit for current history or literature classes
  • as a half credit toward academic electives.
On a humorous note, I currently have only girls and my son in this class right now. John Paul would greatly appreciate having another guy join him in this endeavor! :) If you'd like to register your student for this course, please email me.
2. If you have already registered your student for the Research Paper class, please make sure that you have paid your tuition (contact me for payment arrangements or if you're unsure about whether you've paid or not). You'll also need to order curriculum from Dana Wilson if you haven't already done so. Students need to have their curriculum on the first day of class. I will send out more information about class details in January, once registration closes.
3. Planning ahead, my Public Speaking students will give their final speech on January 26th at 12:30 pm. I would like a fuller audience for this speech, so if you and/or your children would like to watch, we'd love to have you. Please do not bring smaller children who might find the speeches uninteresting and cause disruptions.
4. Another poem by one of American Literature students, to inspire you this week:

Faith

Faith is something God has given to us.
When you have faith, no one can take it away.
If you go through hard things faith is right there reaching out its hands.
I know Faith can help, its helped me in many ways.
When I felt that I could not go on anymore I would remember Faith.
Faith to me is knowing that God is there.
Even though I can't see him I sometimes know he is there.
I also believe that Faith is know that you can do anything you put your mind to.
Faith to me also means that you have a strong belief in what you believe.
Just remember that when you feel scared or put down, Faith is always near.

Have a joyous week!
