Parent Notes - Week 11

I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday! We have a few weeks before the Christmas break. I scheduled classes later this year, through December 15th. If your family finds this challenging or will be traveling, please let me know as soon as possible. It seemed like a good idea so we could finish earlier in May, but if a number of students will be unable to attend class that week, it's better that I know in advance.

Some high school students will be given assignments over the holidays, mostly reading, but they should be easily completed in a day or so. It's important with literature and history that students stay focused on the reading materials and several weeks without reading can throw students off their game. I also suggest that students review their reading before classes resume on January 5th.

I hope you're enjoying the poetry from my American Lit students. This week's selection is:

My grandparents moved in with us last year.
When we moved into our house it was just the four kids and two parents.
Now, eight people live in a three bedroom, two bath home.
My parents and my three brothers all share one giant room upstairs.

As you can imagine, it is cramped sometimes.
We have a table for four that we use to sit eight.
Our living room gets crowded when we all watch TV.
Dividing eight people between two bathrooms is pretty difficult.

Don’t get me wrong,
There are good things, too.
I like seeing my grandparents every day.
It’s nice not being miles away from them.

Dad graduated from Seminary last May
And he’s been looking for a pastoral job ever since,
But as you know, jobs are hard to come by and so far, he hasn’t found one.
We weren’t expecting to still live in this house today, but we are.

The reason of writing all this wasn’t to make you feel sorry for me.
I wanted to remind y’all that God is in control no matter what.
Maybe you can relate to me. Maybe your family is going through tough times like I am.
I know that I could never survive without Him.

And that is something many people forget,
But it is something we need to be reminded of everyday.
Isaiah 26:4 says, “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”
Now that is something worth living for, don’t you think?

Blessings in Him,
